How Great Thou Art

"How Great Thou Art" is a Christian hymn based on a traditional Swedish melody and a poem written by Carl Boberg ( 1859–1940 ). Southern Sweden was the place where "How Great Thou Art" had its beginning in 1886.

It was translated into German and then into Russian; it was translated into English from Russian by English missionary Stuart K. Hine, who added two original verses of his own. The song was known in several countries before it finally reached the shores of the United States.

The hymn was popularized by George Beverly Shea and Cliff Barrows during the Billy Graham Crusades.
